SIDLEY CRICKET CLUB COMMITTEE
Minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday July 9, 2007 at Sidley Sports & Social Club.
PRESENT: Ian Mollart (chairman), Andy Pearson (vice-chairman).
Committee members: Simon Newstead, Cavan O’Connor, Jamie Ramsden, Ross Settles.
1 CORRESPONDENCE
Mr Chris Milton had asked that the Sussex League’s implementation of a Third Division from next season be mentioned. The club finishing bottom of Division Two this year is unlikely to have to apply for re-election.
Mr Pearson had received a reminder from the East Sussex League about away teams being required to pay for teas in the event of forfeited matches.
Mr Trevor Ramsden and Mr Robin Cooper had been on the receiving end of some aggressive language from a representative of Chiddingly Cricket Club over the cancellation of a third team fixture.
2 FINANCIAL MATTERS
Quite a few subscriptions are still outstanding. If the situation does not improve over the next week, a list of debtors will be displayed on the notice board.
3 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr Settles will find and place behind bar items required for Sidley Residents’ Association fete which has been re-arranged for Sunday July 22.
The six-a-side day will not take place on Sunday July 15 following a mix-up over the dates. A game involving adults and colts will be staged instead.
Mr Jamie Ramsden stressed the need for a fixture of some nature to be arranged for the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Mr Mollart suggested holding a fun day with raffle, barbecue, etc.
Mr Ramsden had spoken to Mr Mark Gransden about netting for the practice facility at the top end of the ground. Mr Gransden has a net which, although not in the best of condition, will suffice until sufficient funds are available to purchase a better version. Mr Gransden had also provided Mr Ramsden with details of where to obtain matting from. Mr Mollart agreed to provide Mr Gransden with a donation of thanks at the season’s end.
Mr Singh was invited to give his thoughts on the club. He said he is enjoying it, but would like to see a slightly more professional approach to things. He hadn’t received any of his bonus payments which are set at £5 per wicket and 50p per run. He commented on the keenness of the colts’ section and is happy with his accommodation. Mr Singh was praised by the committee for his work at the club.
A quiz night will be held at the club on Friday July 13 and raffle prizes would be appreciated. A fancy dress party will take place the following night with all proceeds going to St Michael’s Hospice.
A tour of Lincolnshire is planned for next year and the response from players thus far has been pretty good. Dates are yet to be confirmed but it is likely to be at some point in July, taking in three matches. Contact had been made with Boston Cricket Club, a representative of whom had offered to help find accommodation.
Ideas were requested with regard to an end-of-season club dinner. Mr Mollart to look into the possibility of staging such an event at Cooden Beach Golf Club.
4 DATE OF NEXT MEETING
The next committee meeting will take place on Monday August 13, 2007.
The meeting closed at 8.45pm.
