Sidley Slump at Pett
After the stunning victory against Forest Row the previous week, Sidley were brought back to earth with a heavy 6-wicket defeat at Pett yesterday. Sidley reached a goodish total of 235, but were bowled out in 42 of the available 50 overs, leaving Pett plenty of time to score the necessary runs. Once again, Sidley managed to field only 10 players, which did not help the cause.
In the Sidley innings, Ian Mollart led the way with an impressive 59. Dane Capon added 40, father Peter 24, Josh Bull 21, Stuart Craig 17 and Jim Stewart 14. This week, however, no-one apart from Ian managed to push on for a really convincing individual score. The fact that there were 41 extras in the Sidley total, indicated the pace of the outfield and the fact that any batsman who managed to occupy the crease for a lengthy period was likely to produce a significant number of runs.
Pett overtook the Sidley total in just 37 overs, losing only 4 wickets in the process. Stuart Craig took 3 of the 4 wickets.
