Sidley 1st XI Record First Win

 June 4th

NUTLEY 1st XI 112 (39.2 overs)  (6 pts)   (Cavan O'Connor 4-13)

SIDLEY 1st XI 113-5 (33 overs)  (30 pts)   (Dan Reason 39; Steve Ramsden 40)

Sidley 1st XI recorded their first win of the season against a 10-player Nutley side missing some key batters. Having won the toss and asked the visitors to bat, Sidley produced some tight bowling from Amie Anderson, Craig Ramsden and Cavan O'Connor saw the visitors lose quick wickets and tumble to 65-5, with O'Connor taking 4 -13 in 9 overs (3 of those maidens). Ryan Polton came into the attack later on and took a useful 2-12 off his 3 overs. The one blemish on the Sidley performance was the 27 extras conceded (18 wides), making those the top scorer in the Nutley innings. Something for the Sidley bowlers to work on.

After the tea-break, Jamie Ramsden and Dan Reason took the Sidley score to 44 for the first wicket, showing a high level of concentration and determination to build a strong platform. When Jamie Ramsden was unlucky to edge the ball onto his stumps with the total on 78, Dan Reason and Steve Ramsden then took the score on to 92 with a combination of fine drives and hard hitting of loose deliveries, before Reason (39) and Ramsden (40) each fell in quick succession, together with Chris Hunnisett and Jacob McDonough shortly afterwards, causing the lower order batters to scramble for their pads. It was left to David Coveney and Amie Anderson to score the necessary 10 runs for victory, which they did in confident style. It was great to see two umpires in white coats standing throughout the game - a rare sight in lower league matches - and thanks to Trevor Ramsden and Mick Scott (Nutley) for doing this

Cavan O'Connor  -  4-13 off 9 overs.
