Minutes of January Committee Meeting

Present:

I. Mollart; J. Mollart; J. Ramsden; S. Ramsden; T. Ramsden; R. Settles; N. Cunningham.

Ross had written to Sport England regarding a possible grant. They had rung Trevor and told him that they do not deal in small (by their standards) amounts of money. They will donate 30% of the requested figure and we have to put forward the rest. We have to be a charity, as we are, not a profit- making club.

Sussex League and East Sussex League: no reports.

We discussed the club constitution. Jackie had sent it and other forms to Simon Funnel for feedback. We are hoping he can attend a future meeting so we can ask him where we stand.

Cricket Tour:

A tour date had been discussed and it was agreed that in the week August 3rd - 7th the club will be going to the Gloucester-Cheltenham area, possibly staying at the Ramada Resort Hotel, near Gloucester, at a cost of £179 per person or £230 for sole room occupancy.

We shall travel up on the Monday, have 3 games of cricket and a golf day, and head back home on the Friday. Jenny to take weekly payment from players who are interested. The tour dates will be put on the fixture card.

Fund Raising

We discussed a race night, a duck race and a quiz night; also a bonus ball was mentioned and a draw for squares at £5 a square.

The Club is looking for new sponsors for the fixture card. We shall put the website and blogsite address in the fixture card. A letter seeking sponsorship from Macdonalds had been sent to the manager at Glynde Gap, but no reply has as yet been received. Rory Capon is thinking of putting up an advertising board at the club. Sidley garage might be interested as well.

Fixtures:

Trevor had received a letter asking whether we could host Sussex Over 50s, 60s and 70s. We shall offer 12th August for the over 70s and make sure that there is no boot sale that day. September 15th for the Over 70s game, but the ground will be back to football. We are to charge for use of ground and teas.

Brighton Universities are hoping for all their games to be played at Sidley, but the square is too small.

There are not many games arranged for Sundays in May, and we agreed that we should have some blank days.

April 19th will be Bexhill at home, and April 25th Robertsbrige home and away.

Overseas

Ian Mollart had spoken to Scott about overseas players. A South African is interested, but we will have to pay his airfare. A New Zealander and West Indian U.19 are also interseted. We hope to have made a decision by the February meeting.

Colts

We shall be short of colts in certain age groups, but Trevor hopes that, with help, he will be able to get an U.16s side out. Phil Crittenden will be assisting.

Treasurer

Jenny informed us of the current financial position. We still have to pay for indoor cricket. Payment for the 3rd XI cricket balls has been made.

A O B

It was agreed by the committee that captains should be at the next meeting to talk about their ideas for the season ahead and what they are hoping to achieve.

Trevor mentioned that the cricket wicket was not in a good condition. He was hoping Brian would be able to help. He also needs grass seed. Ian to talk to Peter and Andy.

Indoor nets at Horntye are booked for 10th March for five weeks, starting at 7pm for an hour.

Steve Ramsden requested a good umpire for the 2nd XI. We shall put an advert in the local paper. Trevor has passed his umpire's course.

The 3rd team ground was discussed. Ian will make the necessary contact and book the Sandrock Ground.

Close of meeting: 21.40
