On Saturday, the 3rds marched on towards the title with another good victory (by 4 wickets), although this was by no means an easy one. Trevor won the toss and put the opposition in on what looked a difficult pitch on the Ninfield ground. It took 11 overs for the 1st wicket to fall; then Hellingly made their way to 120 for 3 off 33 overs. After the drinks break the "home" side were 128 all out off 39 overs. Deadly spells by Trevor and Andy produced this dramatic batting collapse. Andy took 4-30, Trevor 4-15 off 6 overs, Adam 1-26, and Jon 1-32. Liam bowled a tidy 4 overs. Andy and Adam are now tied on wickets taken going into last match.
We did not find batting easy, but Neil (30) did another fine job by occupying the crease, Phil contributed a valuable 27, and Adam remained 28 not out. At one stage we were 61-4!. Neil and Liam were unlucky to be out to balls that rolled along the ground. It was certainly not unusual for the ball to do this, or to pop up suddenly over waist height. The first ball Liam faced bounced over his head!
Well done to the team: just the one left now - v. Seaford (A) on Saturday. We need 13 points to clinch the title.
