3rd XI v. Pevensey

Sidley - 227-8 off 49 overs
Pevensey - 159 0ff 38.3 overs

We continued our unbeaten run with a 68-run win over local rivals Pevensey. Fortunately the opposition put us in (the match ball and score-book being left at the club!) and Paul (35) and Neil (21) proceeded to put on 60 for the first wicket against some very tidy bowling from the Pevensey Ist XI vice captain. Peter then added 55 with some crisp hitting, and Jim 63 with some well-placed drives. Wickets soon tumbled as we tried to score as quickly as possible to enable us to declare before the 50 overs and gain a few extra overs in which to bowl out the opposition.

Adam (7-55) and Andy (3-27) continued their excellent form with the ball and it was not long before the Pevensey wickets were falling. Adam's change of pace and accurate line posed the opposition all sorts of problems, while Andy kept the pressure on with some equally accurate bowling. Their efforts were aided by a truly brilliant catch by Jim in the gully. As is often the case in 3rd XI matches, the best Pevensey batsmen seemed to come in at the end, and their opening bowler proceeded to hit a brisk, adventurous 50. Peter then switched to Liam and Dane to try to break up the rhythm of the bowling, and as the Pevensey batsmen were tempted into hitting out to gain extra batting points, Andy returned to claim the all-important final wicket.
