Cricket Committee Minutes - November 2007

SIDLEY CRICKET CLUB

Minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday November 12, 2007 at Sidley Sports & Social Club.

PRESENT: Ian Mollart (chairman), Andy Pearson (vice-chairman), Mrs Jenny Mollart (treasurer), Trevor Ramsden.
Committee members: Simon Newstead, Cavan O’Connor, Jamie Ramsden, Ross Settles.

1 MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING
The minutes of the committee meeting on Monday October 8, 2007 were circulated and approved.

2 CORRESPONDENCE
Mr Jamie Ramsden had received a letter from the Hastings & District Cricket Association requesting the club’s presence at its Annual General Meeting on Monday November 26. Mr Pearson to attend.
Mr Trevor Ramsden asked if it would be possible to write a letter to the Hastings & District Cricket Association thanking it for its participation in the 2007 Cricket Week and inviting its involvement again next year.
Mr Trevor Ramsden had received a letter from Brighton Nomads CC confirming next year’s midweek friendly fixture.

3 SUSSEX LEAGUE
The club was not represented at the league’s Annual General Meeting and anticipates a fine accordingly.
The first team had been entered into the 2008 Sussex Cup.

4 FIXTURES
Mr Trevor Ramsden had received the provisional fixture list for the 2008 Sussex League season. The first team will begin its Division Two campaign at home to Lewes Priory on Saturday May 3.
He had begun arranging friendly fixtures for next year, starting with a match against East Sussex League club Blackboys on Saturday April 19.
Cricket Week will take place from Tuesday July 29-Thursday July 31 with the opposition expected to come from Brighton Nomads, the Hastings & District Cricket Association and a Chairman’s XI.
No colts’ fixtures had been received, although Mr Ramsden intends to field sides at under-10s, under-12s and under-16s levels.
The game against a Tyrone Wildman XI will take place on Sunday May 25.
Colts’ Day will be on Sunday September 7.
A Six-a-Side Day was arranged for Sunday July 13, 10.30am start.

5 EAST SUSSEX LEAGUE
A bill for the third team’s use of the Sandrock ground had still to be received. Mr Trevor Ramsden commented on the poor state of the ground.

6 FINANCIAL MATTERS
Mrs Jenny Mollart reported that the books are currently with Mr Keith Luck, who will prepare the accounts for the Annual General Meeting on Monday November 19.
A bill for first team umpires’ fees had yet to be received.
All those to attend the Dinner/Dance on Friday November 9 paid their £25 fee, although no payment had been received from the four people not to show. Explanations for their non-attendance to be sought.
Mr Settles asked about the payment of subscriptions during the 2007 season. Mrs Mollart said very few had not paid.
Mr Jamie Ramsden presented a bill for minibus hire to and from the Dinner/Dance.

7 OVERSEAS PLAYER
It is hoped that Elliott Butler, an Australian opening batsman and occasional off-break bowler recommended by successful former Bexhill CC captain Sam Roberts, will fill the position next year. The matter to be discussed further at the AGM.
The 2007 overseas player, Mr Manjot Singh, eventually decided not to bother paying for his kit to be returned to Australia. Mr Singh instead offered it to Mr Paul Thompson.

8 THE GROUND
Mr Trevor Ramsden reported that the winter work on the square had been carried out by Mr Brian Fletcher. He added that the grass had come back, it had received its first cut and it looks fine.
Mr Ramsden requested Mr Pearson mention his lack of machinery at the next executive committee meeting.

9 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr Mollart stated the proposed tour to Oxfordshire next year had been cancelled due to a lack of interest on the part of the players. Mr Settles suggested a trip to his former club in Scotland, involving a flight from Stansted to Prestwick, as a possible alternative. The idea to be discussed further at the AGM.
Mr O’Connor was asked by Mr Trevor Ramsden to consider representing the club on the executive committee.
Mr Pearson had booked race nights with Moshe for Friday April 4 and Friday September 26 next year.
The Dinner/Dance was debated at length and the general consensus was that it had been a successful evening. Mr Mollart confirmed that the same venue, the High Beech Hotel, had been provisionally booked for October 17 next year, albeit this time with a choice of menu.
Mr Jamie Ramsden presented a letter he had drafted to the Hastings & District Cricket Association complaining about abusive comments made by an umpire in a recent Midweek Indoor League game.
The club had lost its only Midweek Indoor League game to date, while winning one, drawing one and losing one of its three Weekend Indoor League fixtures so far.

10 DATE OF NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be the Annual General Meeting on Monday November 19, 2007.
The meeting closed at 9.10pm.
