Sidley 3rd XI v. Maresfield (August 19th)
Maresfield 213-7
Sidley 180-6
We managed to pick up a valuable 14-point tally in another tight game against the visitors. Having restricted Maresfield in the first 20 overs, we let them off the hook in the second half with some less well-controlled bowling, and that, together with a slowish over-rate, meant that the visitors' total was always going to be a tough challenge in the hour and twenty overs we were left with.
Toby took 3-63; Jamie 2-37; Robin 1-12 and Andy 1-25.
Unfortunately, we got off to a shaky start with Simon and Toby going cheaply. Andy and Ross (16) took the score on to a more-respectable level, before Bob (46), guesting for the home side after an absence of many years), displayed some excellent controlled batting and powerful hard hitting as we worked hard to gain as many batting points as possible in the closing overs. He was ably assisted by Andy (43), showing his real form again, and Craig (22*) and Mike (23), who both hit the ball with gusto to gain some vital boundaries for us.
We were all again delighted with the fighting spirit we showed. Well done to Liam and Dan for some excellent fielding.
