A Cricket Club For Sidley
An addition to the cricket organisations of the town has just been made by the formation of a Club at Sidley, which has every promise of becoming a permanent success. The idea has been taken up with a great deal of enthusiasm and spirit, as will be seen by the fact that during the short space of three weeks 46 playing members have been enrolled.
The list of officials is as follows: - President, Dr Kent; Chairman, Rev. T.T. Churton; Vice-Presidents, Mr A.J. Brook, Mr A. Skinner, Mr J.P. Goodwin, Mr C. Wickens, Mr R.H. Nuttall, Dr. R. De Martini, Mr J. D Atchison, Mr H. Terry, Mr Stephen Thomas, Mr W. Kadwell, Mr Stephen Carey, and Mrs Oliver; Committee, Mr G. Eldridge, Mr G. Rich, Mr J. Beal, Mr J. Campany, Mr S. Adams, Mr W. Miller, and Mr J. Watson; Captain, Mr G. Isted; coach, Capt. J. Matthews; Auditors, Mr F. Bourne and Mr P. Smith; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr Jim Green.
As local and neighbouring clubs have already arranged their list of fixtures for the season, it will not be possible for the Sidley Club to play many matches, but any Club having a vacant date would oblige by communicating with Mr Jim Green, the secretary. The season will be opened on Whit Monday, with a match between Married and Single, on a field adjoining Bodle’s Farm at Sidley, known as Whitelock’s, which has been kindly lent by Mr P. Smith, of Great Worsham. We wish the Sidley Cricket Club an enjoyable season and every possible success.
