Sidley 2nd XI v. Pevensey 3rd XI (August 28th)

Sidley 2nd XI followed up their success against Willingdon 3rd XI the previous week with an exciting 2-wicket win against visitors Pevensey on Saturday at an overcast Sandhurst Recreation Ground. After inviting Pevensey to bat, openers Paul Board and John Dowsett made a strong start, taking the score to 65-1 for the first wicket. Sidley then took a hold on the game, reducing Pevensey to 89-5, with Mark Gransden taking 3-16, Steve Ramsden bowling 7 overs for 11 runs, and Jacob McDonough 6 overs for 14. Determined batting from David Trunkfield (33 n.o.) and Paul Biddle (40 n.o.) then took the score to a much healthier 161 by the end of the allocated 40 overs.

In response, Sidley made a shaky start against a strong Pevensey bowling attack, stumbling to 18-2 before a series of solid contributions from Oliver Cole (22), Harry Little (24), Jacob McDonough (34) and Ethan Jones (24) moved the score patiently on to 121-5. However, Sidley then faced a nervous final chase for the runs as Ethan Jones, Steve Ramsden and Stanley Bobbin fell in quick succession before Mark Gransden, the Sidley captain, steered the home side to victory with 4 overs to spare.
