First League Games (May 4th)

In the first round of League matches, the 1st XI had a fairly comfortable win against East Dean and Friston 2nd XI. Having won the toss, Sidley decided to field first, and restricted the visitors to 157-9 off their 40 overs.

Craig Ramsden took 4-33 off his 9 overs, Cavan O'Connor 3-20 off 9 overs, and Ryan Polton 2-9 off 3 overs.

In reply, Sidley reached the victory total in 30.1 overs. Captain Steve Ramsden hit 79 n.o., and new member of the squad, Jason Hurst, 21.

Man of the Match: Trevor Stanley - 68 n.o.
The 2nd XI, with only 9 players this week, including veterans Mark White and Ross Settles, and newcomers Simon Ottley and James Blackman, performed very capably against Crowhurst Park 4th XI. The home side were asked to bat first, and eventually reached 184-5. Trevor Ramsden took 2-28, and Steve Harrod 2-47. Trevor Stanley bowled a very economical 9 overs for just 18 runs. Unfortunately, but understandably, a generous number of extras (29) came into play, and took the asking total higher than expected.

Some of the Sidley batting looked rather rusty, but opener Trevor Stanley led the way with a very impressive and watchful 68 n.o. Simon Ottley set about the bowling in brisk fashion, hitting four boundaries in his innings of 17. Sidley were bowled out for 138 in the 38th over, leaving them 47 short of victory. Everyone, though, enjoyed the game, and played a full part. It showed what can be achieved with a positive approach, and real determination to enjoy the cricket.
