Sidley 220 for 8 (38.5 overs) – 30 points
Having been asked to bat first on a baking hot day at The Sandhurst Recreation Ground, Wadhurst lost two quick wickets to Steve and Craig Ramsden, but then made steady progress to 87 before losing their next wicket, and two more before they reached 109. Batsmen 7 and 8 then put on over 50, and eventually the visitors reached a total of 219 when their 40 overs ran out. Trevor Ramsden was best of the Sidley bowlers, taking 3-36 off 9 overs. Mark Gransden took 2-47 off 7.
Simon Newstead (32) showed determined focus on a dry pitch causing the ball to come through more slowly than expected, and to sit up, making it difficult for the batsmen to drive with any confidence. Dave Coveney and Steve Ramsden went cheaply, but captain Josh Bull (51) played himself in patiently and then very effectively began to use his feet to the slower bowlers, enabling some hard hitting in front of the wicket. However, just as Sidley were building some match-winning momentum, he was caught and it was left to Craig Ramsden (42) to push the score on with some confident driving.
From 153-4, Sidley slumped nervously to 175-7, with Craig Ramsden, Mark Gransden, Jacob McDonough and Paul Oxborrow all falling in quick succession. Cavan O'Connor (27) and Trevor Ramsden (10) both concentrated hard and worked the ball away carefully, eventually overtaking the visitors' total with just seven balls of the match remaining. It was certainly an exciting match for all concerned, and Sidley did well to gain maximum points after a nervous final 10 overs.
This win takes them into second place - just 11 points behind Tunbridge Wells 4th XI. Next week, Sidley travel to Buxted Park, who are next to bottom of the league.
