Sidley 140 for 3 (19.2 overs) – 30 points
Their late-afternoon batting inspired by England’s World Cup performance against Sweden, Sidley reversed the result from when the two sides met in the first match of the season at the Sandhurst Recreation Ground.
In this first game of the limited-over format for the second half of the league season, Battle were asked to bat first on a dry pitch that offered some lift to the quicker seamers, and moved steadily to 67-1. However, Cavan O’Connor then produced an impressive spell of 3 for 28, and wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Steve Ramsden came on to take 2-32 to restrict the home side to a modest overall total.
Sidley started their innings in brisk fashion. Dave Coveney (17) cut several to the boundary fence before being bowled, and Josh Bull powered several balls over mid-wicket and long-on in a rapid 52 before eventually being trapped lbw. Steve Ramsden continued this approach with a quick 26. In the midst of this flurry of hard hitting, opener Simon Newstead played a calming role with a neatly-constructed 28 n.o.
Next week, Sidley take on Wadhurst at the Sandhurst Recreation Ground.
