Sidley win against Lewes Priory 2nd XI

Lewes Priory 2nd XI  141-8 (48 overs)  - 5 points

Sidley CC  144-2 (24.2 overs)  - 28 points

Having won the toss, Sidley found it difficult to take wickets on a regular basis, and the later Lewes batsmen showed some dogged resistance. Craig Ramsden proved to be the most effective bowler, taking 4-33 off 14 overs. Cavan O'Connor took 2-40 off 11 overs, and Andy Pearson 2-34 off 12 overs.

Lewes Priory managed to post a modest target of 141 off 48 overs. Despite the early loss of opener Dave Coveney, Sidley reached their target in only 24.2 overs. Josh Bull was dismissed just before the end for a hard-hitting 65. Opener Simon Newstead played a confident and watchful innings, while, like Josh Bull, dispatching any loose deliveries with authority.

One of the most impressive aspects of the match was the fantastic enthusiasm for the game shown by the Lewes Priory wicketkeeper (John O'Connor, pictured above) who is 87 years young, and was awarded an MBE for his services to Lewes Priory cricket in 2002. He is President of Lewes Priory CC and has been a member there since 1958.
