Sidley v. Westfield

Sidley lost by 3 wickets.  (Westfield 30 pts; Sidley 8 pts.)

Sidley 128 all out  (41.1 overs).

Westfield 129-7 (30.4 overs)

On a very windy afternoon at the Sandhurst Recreation Ground, Sidley struggled to post a reasonable total for the visitors to chase in such difficult conditions. After a good, steady start by Simon Newstead (16) and Paul Oxborrow (15), Only Craig Ramsden (35) and Ian Mollart, who resisted well at the tail for 15, managed to maintain a presence at the crease. From being 50-2, the Sidley total of 128 was disappointing.

In reply, Westfield found themselves 53-4 after an uncertain start, and had it not been for several dropped catches, and some wayward bowling powerfully dispatched by the visitors' number 7 batsman, Sidley might well have pulled off a win. Best of the bowlers was Jim Stewart, who took 3-42 off 9 overs.

Next Saturday sees Sidley travelling to Crowhurst Park 3rd XI, who are currently top of the league.

The dismissal of the Westfield opening batsman gave hope.
But the hard-hitting number 7 took the game away from Sidley.
