Sidley v. Pett 2nd XI

Sidley lost by 67 runs.  (Pett 2nd XI 30 pts; Sidley 12 pts.)

Pett 2nd XI 237-6  (49 overs).

Sidley 170 all out  (37.1 overs).

After the previous week's success, Sidley slumped to defeat against Pett, but only after a stout last-wicket rally by Paul O'Connor and Trevor Ramsden who put on 56 runs and gained valuable batting points for the visitors.

The match was switched to the picturesque Winchelsea CC ground due to the annual flower show being held on the Pett ground. Sidley won the toss and invited Pett to bat, but the hosts were in good form, and that, together with some wayward bowling, made it difficult for Sidley to make significant inroads into the batting. Best performances came from Trevor Ramsden (3-48 off 11 overs) and Cavan O'Connor (2-67 off 18 overs).

In reply to the Pett target, wickets fell quickly, and the visitors found themselves 2-2. Jacob McDonough hit out strongly for a quick fire 26, and Harry Little, making his second appearance of the season, greatly impressed by playing with a straight bat and showing a high level of concentration. Wickets then tumbled on a regular basis (with Grant Chalk, kindly turning out for Sidley to ensure a full line-up, suffering from a tragic run-out) before Paul O'Connor (27 n.o.) and Trevor Ramsden (19) came together at 111-9. Both batted with a determined focus, dispatching any loose delivery firmly to the boundary. Together they put on 59 runs, gaining 6 batting points for Sidley. Trevor Ramsden was bowled with less than 7 overs of the innings left, so it had been a very impressive rearguard action, in view of the disappointing start to the Sidley innings.
