Sidley 3rd XI: 109 (31 overs).
Mayfield 3rd XI: 106 (55 overs).
In one of the tensest matches played in recent years, Sidley recorded the victory that took them to the top of the table.
Dane Capon and Ian Vye got the home team off to a solid start after the visitors opted to bowl first, but then wickets tumbled until Chris MIlton contributed a useful 18 and Cavan O'Connor and Jamie Ramsden dug in to produce a vital 12 and 17 respectively. This time Extras (15) came to our aid! Unusually, the Sidley innings lasted only 31 overs, leaving the visitors extra overs to reach the target.
Sidley then took some quick wickets before two middle-order batsmen dug in to score 24 and 26. The visitors managed to occupy the crease with some determination for 55 overs until the final wicket fell. All the home side bowlers made valuable contributions: Cavan O'Connor 3-13; Jim Stewart 1-34; Jamie Ramsden 2-17; Trevor Ramsden 2-14 and Craig Ramsden 2-9.
Very well done to the team for winning this important victory. Nerves must still be jangling! With only 3 matches left this season, a sharp focus must be maintained to ensure the league title.
