Cricket Committee Minutes - April 2008

SIDLEY CRICKET CLUB

Minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday April 7, 2008 at Sidley Sports & Social Club.

PRESENT:
Ian Mollart (chairman), Andy Pearson (vice-chairman), Mrs Jenny Mollart (treasurer).
Committee members: Peter King, Simon Newstead, Jamie Ramsden, Ross Settles.

1 APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE
Apologies were received from Mr Trevor Ramsden.

2 MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING
The minutes of the players’ meeting on Monday March 3 2008 were circulated and no alterations were requested.

3 MATTERS ARISING
Mr King has been installed as first team captain for the coming season with Mr Ian Reynolds vice-captain after Mr Dan Auer stepped down due to work commitments. Mr Chris Hunnisett is to assist with the organisational side of things.
Mr Neil Cunningham is to score for the second team when not playing.
Mrs Mollart asked if there was a need for new scorebooks and was encouraged to purchase three of them.
Mrs June O’Connor is to provide teas for the opening few home matches before Mrs Jackie Ramsden returns.
A batch of new cricket shirts had been paid for and received by Mr Scott Woodroffe. Mr Newstead is to take to SuperStitch 86 for the club badge to be added. Mrs Mollart is to sort out payment to Mr Woodroffe.

4 CORRESPONDENCE
Mr Mollart had received a letter from a nearby resident detailing the occasions when cricket balls were struck into the properties alongside the ground in 2007. Mr King said the matter was treated with a pinch of salt at the previous executive committee meeting.

5 EXECUTIVE REPORT
Mr King said that there was nothing directly affecting the club to come out of the last executive committee meeting other than the financial situation of the main club. He said that the main club is looking into the possibility of effectively mortgaging some money against the value of the ground to consolidate the monies owed and make it more cost effective to repay.
Mr King added that he has a nagging concern about the agreed part-time work for overseas player Mr Elliot Bullock amid talk of cutting costs.

6 SUSSEX/EAST SUSSEX LEAGUES REPORT
Sussex League secretary Terry Urban had resigned after only a matter of weeks in the role. The league has a potential replacement lined-up, albeit at a cost of £6,000 per year and £150 per club. Mr Mollart urged the club’s Sussex League representative, Mr Chris Milton, to agree to the idea, yet at the same time express our dissatisfaction.
The East Sussex League’s pre-season meeting, at which the third team’s match balls will need to be collected, is expected to take place shortly.

7 TREASURER’S REPORT
Mr Ramsden said that the club will shortly have to pay the bill for its indoor net sessions, although the money collected at the sessions is expected to cover it.

8 OVERSEAS PLAYER
Mr Bullock is to arrive on Tuesday April 15 at 6.30am. He is to be collected by Mr Milton and Mr Woodroffe.
The question of where he is to be taken was raised by Mr King. It is thought he will probably stay with Mr Woodroffe for the first day or so before moving into more permanent accommodation.
Mr King said that his team back in Australia, Mosman, didn’t have a particularly good season, but Mr Bullock performed okay, scoring approximately 400-450 runs.

9 THE GROUND
Mr Mollart is to organise a work party to carry out work on the ground on Saturday April 19 from 10am.
Mr Trevor Ramsden intends to prepare five more wickets stretching out onto the football pitch but has no money or seed. Mr King suggested Mr Ramsden raise the matter with his employers.
Mr Pearson asked what St Luke’s CC will contribute to the club amid concerns over whether the agreement will work following their failure to answer or return telephone calls. Mr King urged the club to write to St Luke’s stating that the ground will be available to hire at a cost of £60, plus teas, per game.

10 FIXTURES
Blackboys CC had pulled out of the friendly arranged for Saturday April 19.
Friendlies had been arranged against Robertsbridge CC, however, on Saturday April 26 with the first team at home and the seconds/thirds away.
The opening Sunday friendlies are against Bexhill Athletic CC on April 20 and Westfield CC on April 27.
The club had been drawn at home to Cambridge Granta CC in round one of the Bertie Joel Cup. The match is to be played by June.
A midweek friendly had been arranged against Warwickshire tourists Exhall & Wixford CC, finalists in the 2004 npower Village Cup, on Wednesday July 16.
The annual midweek friendly against Mayfield has been pencilled in for Wednesday June 25.
The first colts’ game of the season – the under-12s’ fixture away to Hastings Priory CC - will take place on Monday April 28.
Mr Mollart said he is prepared to manage the under-16s team along with Mr Bullock, should the latter be willing to do so, during the 2008 season.
Mr Settles said that he would very much like Mr Bullock to be involved in August’s short tour to Scotland.

11 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr King asked if the letters to Mr Bullock’s individual bonus sponsors are ready to be sent and if any more than seven of the intended 10 sponsors are in place. Mr Mollart is to endeavour to find the remaining three.
Mr Mollart stressed the need to get as many people as possible involved in the Roy Ransom Trophy – a night of crib, darts, dominoes and pool involving the cricket club, football club and games section – on Monday April 21.
Sussex University is willing to pay £150 to use the ground for one of its fixtures on Sunday April 27.
Some new boundary marker flags had been acquired.
Mr Steve Ramsden had passed on concerns raised by some potential second team players about match fees rising to £10. The meeting agreed that these concerns ought to have been voiced at last autumn’s AGM.
Mr Jamie Ramsden asked how fixture cards are progressing. Mr Mollart said that Mr Hunnisett had sent them off to be printed and hopes they will be finished soon.
It was reported that the club had won Division Three of the Hastings & District Cricket Association Midweek Indoor League.
Another race night has been booked for Friday September 26. Mr King suggested arranging another for an evening during the cricket season.
Mr King asked what else is in the offing in terms of fundraising. Mrs Mollart said we have some football cards which need to be used every Saturday and, ideally, Sunday. The popular “Play Your Cards Right” idea was also talked about.
Mrs Mollart said some subscriptions had already been paid.
Mr Mollart had held a meeting with Mr Cunningham with regard to the Charity Day for MS arranged for Sunday August 10. Mr Cunningham’s plans are apparently progressing well.

12 DATE OF THE NEXT MEETING
The next committee meeting will take place on Tuesday May 6, 2008.
The meeting closed at 9.18pm.
