Minutes of the committee meeting held on Wednesday February 27, 2008 at Sidley Sports & Social Club.
PRESENT: Ian Mollart (chairman), Andy Pearson (vice-chairman), Mrs Jenny Mollart (treasurer).
Committee members: Simon Newstead, Jamie Ramsden.
1 APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE
Apologies were received from Mr Peter King and Mr Trevor Ramsden.
2 SUSSEX/EAST SUSSEX LEAGUES
Mr Robin Cooper had provisionally booked use of the Sandrock ground on the dates of the third team’s home fixtures for the 2008 season.
No correspondence had been received from the Sussex League.
3 TREASURER’S REPORT
Match fees had been received for the latest two weekend indoor league matches and the midweek indoor league game of the previous night.
Mr Ramsden had received an invoice of £211 for the upcoming indoor net sessions. The money will be paid afterwards and it is hoped to split the cost with Bexhill Athletic CC.
Cheques had been posted to cover the club’s ECB (£10) and SCB (£25) affiliation fees.
4 THE GROUND
Mr Mollart spoke of the need to find out what work groundsman Mr Trevor Ramsden needs doing on the ground and to form a work party to ensure such work is completed by the start of the 2008 season.
Mr Ramsden said that Mr Mark Gransden may be able to acquire some netting for the perimeter of the ground.
Mr Mollart raised the issue of what to do with the still-to-be-completed net at the top of the ground. It was decided to wait and see what happens with regard to the possible sale of the area in question before pressing ahead.
5 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT
The club offered Sidley United Football Club their requested use of the ground on Bank Holiday Monday August 25 subject to the conditions agreed at the previous meeting.
The Sidley Residents’ Association fete is apparently in doubt.
The Roy Ransom Trophy, a night of activities such as crib, darts, dominoes and pool between the various sections of Sidley Sports Club, will take place on Monday April 21.
6 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr Mollart stated that Mr Dan Auer had stepped down as first team captain for the 2008 season having taken up a job on the Isle of Wight. Mr Ramsden had received a letter from Mr Tyrone Wildman suggesting Mr King be the successor with Mr Wildman as vice-captain. The matter will be discussed further at Monday’s players’ meeting.
Mr Mollart said the games’ night on Friday February 15 was a success.
Mr Neil Cunningham is to be the main sponsor of Cricket Week.
Mr Mollart stressed the need to display posters advertising the race night on Friday April 4.
Mr Mollart thanked Mr Cooper and Mr Ramsden for their efforts in organising teams for the indoor leagues.
Mr Mollart had sent letters to Mr Roger Lee and Mr Phil White thanking them for their sponsorship.
The club had received a donation towards match balls from a source who wished to remain anonymous.
Mr Ramsden had spoken to Mr Andrew Lipscombe with regard to umpiring for the second team during the 2008 season. Mr Lipscombe declined having already made other arrangements.
Mr Rick Bowley had pledged sponsorship.
Mr Ramsden had spoken with Mr Mike Griffiths about the cancelled weekend indoor league game against Sedlescombe. The opposition was unable to field a side on the scheduled date but wished to take the unusual step of re-arranging it for a later date. Mr Ramsden said he didn’t think a re-arranged fixture would be fair on other teams in the division.
Mr Ramsden is awaiting a reply to the letter he sent the Hastings & District Cricket Association complaining about the conduct of an umpire during a midweek indoor league fixture.
7 DATE OF NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be a players’ meeting on Monday March 3rd, 2008.
The meeting closed at 8.25pm.
