SIDLEY CRICKET CLUB
Minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday February 4, 2008 at Sidley Sports & Social Club.
PRESENT: Ian Mollart (chairman), Andy Pearson (vice-chairman), Mrs Jenny Mollart (treasurer).
Committee members: Chris Hunnisett, Peter King, Simon Newstead, Cavan O’Connor, Jamie Ramsden.
1 APOLOGIES
These were received from Mr Trevor Ramsden and Mr Ross Settles.
2 MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
The minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday January 7, 2008 were circulated and no alterations were requested.
3 SUSSEX LEAGUE
Mr King said the club had been drawn away to Bexhill in round one of the league’s cup competition. The Twenty20 match will be played on Sunday July 13.
4 EAST SUSSEX LEAGUE
Mr Robin Cooper had contacted Hastings Borough Council with regard to use of the Sandrock ground for the third team’s home matches during the 2008 season. The dates had been provisionally booked, although confirmation is still being awaited.
5 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT
Mr King said that the proposal for the club’s 2008 overseas player Elliot Bullock to work part-time on the ground during his stay was approved.
The main club is soon to introduce a ‘Happy Hour’ in its bar on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Sidley United Football Club asked permission to use the ground on Bank Holiday Monday August 25 for a fixture to mark the opening of its new stand. The cricket committee agreed subject to the following criteria being met: taking down and replacing boundary markers, the football pitch not being marked out until the previous day, assisting the groundsman in removing the lines before the following Saturday’s Sussex Cricket League game and the cricket club asking the football club to cancel the match at short notice in the event of bad weather.
6 FIXTURES
Mr Mollart confirmed the club had again entered the Bertie Joel Cup.
Mr Ramsden confirmed the club will line-up in the Observer Cup.
The date of the friendly game against a Tyrone Wildman XI had been changed.
The friendly match versus an Ian Mollart XI had been moved to Sunday June 8.
The club had received a telephone call from Mr Hugh Milner with a view to the Sussex over-50s team using the ground for some of its matches on Wednesdays. A price had been agreed and games will take place subject to boot sales not being held on the same dates. Mr O’Connor suggested drawing up a list of Wednesday matches and presenting it to the main club, requesting no boot sales be held on these dates.
Fixture cards are ready to be printed.
A Sunday friendly against Hastings Priory had been arranged.
7 OVERSEAS PLAYER
Mr King circulated a version of the contract which Mr Bullock had agreed to.
He had received a quote of approximately £1,300 for the player’s air fare.
Mr Bullock is due to arrive at approximately 6am on Tuesday April 15. He is due to depart on Tuesday September 16.
Mr King circulated examples of the letters he has drafted to the player’s individual bonus sponsors, club members and parents of colt players.
Five of the intended 10 individual bonus sponsors are in place.
Mr King is still awaiting confirmation of Mr Bullock’s Police Check and coaching certificates.
Mr and Mrs Mollart are to provide accommodation for the player to begin with, while two or three other options appear possible for later in the season.
8 THE GROUND
Mr Mollart to inspect the netting at the side of the ground as Mr Trevor Ramsden believes it needs replacing.
Mr Trevor Ramsden reiterated his point about the poor quality of machinery at his disposal.
10 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr Neil Cunningham spoke about his plans for the MS Day on Sunday August 10. Wisden’s had donated a couple of raffle prizes, although he was still waiting for replies from several county sides. Mr King will provide the opposition. The chairman of the local MS branch spoke about the work it does and expressed her gratitude towards the club for its assistance.
Mr Hunnisett stepped down from the committee and the executive committee due to work commitments. Mr Peter Blatchly was elected as his replacement following a proposal by Mr King, although he will only attend executive committee meetings. Mr Blatchly is to be offered free club membership.
Mr Settles had provisionally booked fixtures for Tuesday August 19 and Wednesday August 20 on his proposed trip to Scotland. To be discussed further at next month’s players’ meeting.
The address list of club members is almost complete.
Mr Scott Woodroffe had been offered some more Exito shirts. Further enquiries to be made.
The club is to share its upcoming indoor net sessions with Bexhill Athletic (Sidley having two nets and Athletic one). The sessions will start on Tuesday March 18 and payment will be made in the form of a lump sum afterwards.
A colts’ meeting has been scheduled for Friday February 15 and a games’ night will take place later on that same date.
11 DATE OF NEXT MEETING
A players’ meeting will be held on Monday March 3.
The meeting closed at 9.12pm.
