Cricket Committee MInutes - January 2008

SIDLEY CRICKET CLUB

Minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday January 7, 2008 at Sidley Sports & Social Club.

PRESENT: Andy Pearson (vice-chairman), Trevor Ramsden (fixture secretary).
Committee members: Chris Hunnisett, Peter King, Simon Newstead, Cavan O’Connor, Jamie Ramsden, Ross Settles. (Andy Pearson chaired the meeting in Ian Mollart's absence.)

1 APOLOGIES
These were received from Ian Mollart and Mrs Jenny Mollart.

2 MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING
The minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday December 3, 2007 were circulated and Mr Trevor Ramsden requested one small alteration.

3 CORRESPONDENCE
Mr Trevor Ramsden had received a telephone call from Mr Tyrone Wildman inquiring as to whether or not the Sussex over-50s/60s teams could use the ground for selected fixtures during the summer. Mr Wildman to re-contact Mr Ramsden with possible dates. Mr Ramsden suggested charging £60 per game and donating that money to the main club.
Mr Wildman had also spoken to Mr Ramsden about two players interested in joining the club.
Mr Pearson had received details of the Hastings & District Cricket Association-run summer midweek competitions. It was decided to enter a team in the lower tier Observer Cup.

4 FINANCIAL MATTERS
A bill for the third team’s match balls in 2007 had been paid.
Mr Trevor Ramsden stated that he was aware of someone willing to make a donation to the club.
5 FIXTURES
Mr Trevor Ramsden said he had still been unable to arrange a second pre-season Saturday friendly fixture, although he is still awaiting a reply from Robertsbridge Cricket Club.

6 OVERSEAS PLAYER
Mr King circulated a CV and photo of Elliot Bullock, who had agreed to the terms of the final contract and was in the process of booking his flight.
The player is due to arrive approximately mid-April and his kit will be delivered to Mr King’s address.
Mr Bullock to e-mail Mr King details of his Police Check with coaching of colt players in mind.
Mr Bullock is expected to charge around £20 per hour for private coaching, plus £8-10 per head for groups of 2-3.
Mr Trevor Ramsden said that Mr Bullock possessed the best coaching credentials he had seen of any overseas player during his time at the club.
Mr King said the club had confirmed five sponsors for the player’s bonus scheme and is seeking a further five.
Mr King had drafted a letter to those sponsors explaining how payment is to be made.
He had also drafted a letter to parents of colt players introducing Mr Bullock and explaining he will be available for coaching.
Mr King said the one contentious point at present is whether or not the club will be able to secure work on the ground for the player. The last executive committee meeting had been abandoned before he had been able to raise the matter.
Mr Bullock had asked Mr King if he would be able to go travelling into Europe one week during the summer from Monday-Friday. Mr King said he would need to seek permission from Mr Mollart upon his arrival and gave Mr Bullock the date of the free week since that would appear an ideal time.

7 SUSSEX SUSSEX/EAST LEAGUES
Mr Trevor Ramsden said that the third team had been placed in Division 12 of the East Sussex League for the 2008 season, but was still awaiting their fixtures.

8 COLTS
Mr Trevor Ramsden had spoken to the prospective under-16s captain Cavan O’Connor jnr and a meeting is to be convened on a date to be announced.

9 THE GROUND
Mr Trevor Ramsden reported that matters are being taken care of.
Mr Pearson gave an update on the possible sale of land at the top of the ground by the main club. Property developers The Park Lane Group had made a generous offer for the land.

10 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr Trevor Ramsden suggested inviting Mr Robin Cooper to arrange the third team’s ground use for the 2008 season.
The possible tour to Scotland was again discussed. Mr Settles was asked to pursue it further and to raise the matter at the players’ meeting on Monday March 3.
Mr Hunnisett and Mr King will run a fun general knowledge quiz on Friday January 18. Teams of five or six and prizes for the winners of each round, 7.30 for 8pm.
Mr Trevor Ramsden said that the players’ address list is 70 per cent complete.

11 DATE OF THE NEXT MEETING
The next committee meeting will take place on Monday February 4, 2008.
The meeting closed at 9.20pm.
