Minutes of the committee meeting held on Monday September 10, 2007 at Sidley Sports & Social Club.
PRESENT: Ian Mollart (chairman), Andy Pearson (vice-chairman), Chris Milton (secretary), Mrs Jenny Mollart (treasurer), Neil Cunningham, Trevor Ramsden.
Committee members: Simon Newstead, Cavan O’Connor, Jamie Ramsden, Ross Settles.
1 MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING
The minutes of the committee meeting on Monday August 13, 2007 were circulated and approved.
2 CORRESPONDENCE
Mr Trevor Ramsden had received a letter from Mrs Johnson, of Bexhill Cricket Club, thanking the club for its help in raising money towards her son Malcolm’s trip to Australia with the Sussex youth set-up.
Mr Ramsden is also attempting to arrange a friendly fixture against Tenterden during October.
3 SUSSEX/EAST SUSSEX LEAGUE
Mr Trevor Ramsden and Mr Robin Cooper had attended an East Sussex League disciplinary hearing over the completion of an incorrect teamsheet for the third team fixture against Chiddingly III. It was decided that no action would be taken.
Mr Milton had received an e-mail stating that Sussex League secretary Peter Butter and chairman Terry Burstow would be standing down with immediate effect.
He had also been sent a note from Preston Nomads CC inviting the club to apply for financial assistance from the Spen Karma Trust. It was decided to apply for a grant of £10,000.
The Sussex League dinner will take place on October 19. Mr Milton and Mr Scott Woodroffe to attend.
The fixtures for the 2008 Sussex League season will be released by the end of November.
Mr Milton to contact Mr Woodroffe and Mr Steve Ramsden with regard to obtaining individual batting and bowling statistics for the first and second teams.
4 FINANCIAL MATTERS
Mr Trevor Ramsden suggested asking the main club to stage a race night on a Friday or Saturday evening in the near future.
Mrs Mollart to draw up a list of debtors.
5 OVERSEAS PLAYER
Mr Mollart asked how we intend to go about recruiting an overseas player for the 2008 season. The committee to contact Rehmani and MCC chief executive officer Mr Keith Bradshaw.
6 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr Cunningham expressed his desire to stage a charity game for Multiple Sclerosis and suggested a date of Sunday August 7, 2008. Further research and planning to be done before the next meeting.
Mr Trevor Ramsden had received an enquiry about indoor cricket during the coming winter. Mr Jamie Ramsden to take charge of the midweek side and Mr Cooper the weekend team.
Mr Richard Deeprose to transport a flagpole to the club from Horntye Park Sports Complex in Hastings.
The issue of taking colts’ players for winter coaching at Sussex County Cricket Club headquarters in Hove was debated.
Mr Pearson expressed concerns over selection policy. Further discussion to take place at the AGM.
Mr Milton enquired about indoor nets in preparation for the 2008 season. Mr Jamie Ramsden said the cost of hiring Horntye Park is £32 per hour. He will attempt to book a slot between 7-8pm on Monday nights throughout February and March.
Mr Milton will speak to Mr Bradshaw over a possible trip to Lord’s for the colts’ section.
Mr Cavan O’Connor commended the club on its on-field performances during the 2007 season. Mr Milton echoed his sentiments.
Mr Mollart said that vertidraining of the square will take place during November.
He also stated the club will go on tour in Oxfordshire the week commencing June 16, 2008. The plan is to play three games and possibly finish the week with a round of golf. The cost is being looked into and accommodation will be arranged by the next meeting. A list for those interested will be displayed in the clubhouse.
The end-of-season presentation evening will take the form of a dinner/dance at the High Beech Hotel, St Leonards, on Friday November 9. Tickets will be priced at £20-£25 and will include a three-course meal.
The AGM will take place on Monday November 19. Letters to be circulated.
