Recent Match Reports

Saturday, July 28th:

SIDLEY III 154-9 (7pts)
LINDEN PARK IV 156-3 (29pts)

WITH the firsts and seconds on their free week, attention switched to the thirds of Sidley at Gullivers on Saturday.
And they eventually went down to a seven-wicket defeat after a competitive fixture in Division 11 of the East Sussex Cricket League.
Sidley got off to a decent start with the bat, Simon Newstead (27) and Bob Goodsell (30) putting on 48 for the first wicket.
Paul Oxborrow continued the momentum with 21 at number three, but three wickets fell for 10 runs to leave Sidley on 91-4.
Adam Wickens looked good during his 26 before being sixth man out with the score on 130 and three more batsmen departed in the space of five balls four runs later to Roy Hyde (5-35).
Andy Pearson then compiled an impressive 27 not out and made the breakthrough in the field by bowling Andrew Marshall for 31 with the first delivery of his spell when the score was on 49.
Match ball sponsor Steve Ramsden beat the bat numerous times prior to Paul White (32) and Mark White (17) falling in successive overs to Pearson and Wickens on 88.
Nick Chellel (25 not out) and Rishi Patel (37 not out) batted superbly, however, to take Tunbridge Wells-based Park home with 3.5 overs remaining.

Saturday July 21:
SIDLEY III 211-8 (18pts)
CHIDDINGLY III 123-8 (9pts)

SIDLEY outplayed promotion-chasing opponents in Division 11 of the East Sussex Cricket League on Saturday.Robin Cooper’s bottom-of-the-table charges scored 88 more runs than their second-placed rivals and were two wickets away from clinching a notable win.Simon Newstead (31) and Bob Goodsell (12) put on 37 for the first wicket before Sidley wobbled slightly to 70-4 upon the introduction of spin to the attack.Paul Oxborrow (26) and Adam Wickens (40) consolidated with a 54-run stand for the fifth wicket on a Sandrock track which played better than it looked.Dan Auer then hauled Sidley up to maximum batting points with a well-made 53, receiving good support from young Josh Armstrong (13 not out).Chiddingly never looked capable of reaching a sizeable target against good bowling from the entire Sidley attack. But they didn’t seem likely to be bowled out either until the fall of four wickets for two runs towards the end briefly gave Sidley hope. The wickets went to Armstrong (3-24), Auer (3-29), Cooper (1-11) and Wickens (1-17), while Garth Baker (0-4 off five overs) also bowled well. The match ball sponsor was Candy Corner.

Saturday July 21:
ROFFEY II 180 (28pts)
SIDLEY II 167 (13pts)

SIDLEY pushed promotion-chasing opposition all the way in 2nd XI Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League. The second-bottom local club was just 14 runs away from clinching its first victory of the summer at Gullivers on Saturday.Despite Jamie Ramsden removing Simon Hickey for 12 with the score on 25, Roffey were looking good with the bat through Greg Burgess (41) and James Banner (38).But the Horsham-based visitors endured something of a collapse from 90-1 to 105-5 as Craig Ramsden, Tyrone Wildman and Mark Gransden all struck.Byron Napper (23), Sachin Naik (19) and Greg Harris (24) got them going again only for two wickets to go down on 148 and the last three on 180.The excellent Wildman finished with 5-66 and Ian Rise 2-22, while Paul Thompson held two catches, effected a stumping and didn’t concede a single bye.Wildman got Sidley’s reply off to a blistering start with 38 off 27 balls as Pete Savage consolidated at the other end.Thompson struck 31 off 18 deliveries and there were other useful knocks from Rory Capon (18), Chris Milton (15), Craig Ramsden (14), Gransden (11) and Jamie Ramsden (11).But wickets fell steadily throughout and Sidley wound up agonisingly short. The match ball was sponsored by totesport.

* Sidley’s first team fixture away to the same opposition was washed out without a ball being bowled.
