Sidley 3rd XI 137-6
Crowhurst Park 3rd XI 143-4
Unfortunately, this was the first time in four matches that we let the opposition get the better of us. The slow Westfield pitch made front foot shots difficult, and that, together with some very good, controlled slow bowling from the Crowhurst bowlers, made runs hard to come by. Simon was the only batsman who really took to the conditions, scoring an excellent, brisk 50. Paul was unlucky to top edge one just as he was getting to grips with the bowling, and after Andy went for a valuable 25, it was left to Robin and Ross (24*) to try to play out the overs.
Even though 137 was well short of an ideal total, we remembered shooting out the opposition for 55 last season and hopes were high for a repeat performance. However, the Crowhurst captain got them off to a quick start, offering several chances before Becky took the catch of the season at long off to dismiss him. At 44-2, we were still in with a chance, but some impressive batting by two Battle Abbey schoolboys took the total on to the victory target. Paul took a quick stumping off Becky at the end to gain an extra point. Andy worked hard for his 2-57, and skipper, Robin, took 1-27. In all, it was one of those days where things just didn't go our way.
Sidley 2nd XI v. Stirlands
Sidley 169
Stirlands 170-4
Although Steve and Trevor both scored 30 and Craig 26, the visitors had a comfortable victory. Craig took 2-36 and Steve 1-30.
Sidley 1st XI v. Stirlands
Stirlands 216-7
Sidley 20-2
With several regular 1st team players unavailable, this was probably a good result - due to bad weather setting in just after we had lost two quick wickets. Joey took 4-66 to help restrict the opposition to a reasonable total. Colts Alex and Cavan performed very capably at the top level, with Cavan taking a good catch.
