SIDLEY III 167 (13pts)
HELLINGLY III 112-8 (10pts)
THE thirds of Sidley produced another encouraging performance in the East Sussex Cricket League on Saturday, 9th June.
Robin Cooper’s charges remain bottom of the Division 11 table, but they are inching closer to the sides above them.
As in the previous weekend’s win over Newick Nomads, Sidley got off to a poor start with the bat and found themselves 42-4 at one stage despite 14 from Simon Newstead.
But they gradually turned things around thanks largely to a gritty 50 by Ross Settles, the 26 of Dan Hughes and 17 from the returning Danny Hill.
Visitors Hellingly slumped from 22-0 to 36-4 in reply and, although Sidley kept chipping away, they couldn’t quite complete consecutive victories.
The main reason for that was because Steve Baldwin batted all the way through the innings for an unbeaten 29. Andy Pearson was the pick of the bowlers with 3-47 from 22 overs.
The other wickets were taken by match ball sponsor Cooper (2-11), Newstead (2-20) and Hughes (1-23), while Newstead, Hughes and Tony Galvin held good catches.
