3rd XI v. Crowhurst Park

SIDLEY III 223-8 (30pts) CROWHURST PARK III 57 (8pts)

SIDLEY thirds moved off the foot of Division 11 in the East Sussex Cricket League courtesy of a crushing victory. Robin Cooper's men went above St JM Jacobeans B after extending their unbeaten run to three matches on Saturday. Sidley were in command all the way from the moment Cooper won the toss and elected to bat on an extremely green Sandrock wicket.

They achieved maximum batting points for the first time this season largely thanks to 91 from opener Simon Newstead. Debutant Pete Savage (24), Ross Settles (23), Michael Dangerfield (22), Andy Pearson (20) and Paul Oxborrow (13) all weighed with useful contributions. Sidley dominated with the ball as well, reducing an under-strength Park side to 8-4 after 13 overs and 44-9 following the fall of four wickets for as many runs.

They had 15 overs to make the final breakthrough, but some dogged resistance meant they had to wait until the first ball of the penultimate over to seal a fully deserved success. Newstead finished with 6-28 from 15.1 overs and Pearson returned 4-16 off 18, while Kevin Kempthorne, Cooper, Savage, Settles and Oxborrow held smart catches. The match ball was sponsored by Sidley Sports & Social Club.
