SIDLEY 139 (2pts) STIRLANDS 141-0 (30pts)
EVERY team will have the odd day to forget during the course of a season and Sidley had theirs on Saturday. Scott Woodroffe's charges suffered a 10-wicket hammering on their own Gullivers ground in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League. The skipper lamented: "The less said the better really. We were a disgrace to be honest. We just didn't do anything right and were thoroughly outplayed in all departments of the game."
Despite losing opener Paul Thompson to a Danny Cox jaffer for a duck, Sidley actually got their innings off to a flying start after choosing to bat. Tyrone Wildman blazed eight fours and a six during a scintillating 55 from 41 balls and Woodroffe made a confident 24 at the other end. The score was up to 79 when they were finally parted, but it was all downhill from there on for a Sidley side which went into the game in pretty good form. Manjot Singh (19) and Chris Hunnisett (12) were the only members of the last eight to reach double figures, although Singh was the victim of a stunning catch by Christian Fallick. Cox polished off the tail with 3-6 from four overs to finish with 4-49, while the other wickets went to Graham Bush (2-24), David Briance (2-10), Fallick (1-2) and Paul Dorkings (1-45).
Third-placed Stirlands - the only team thus far to defeat leaders Chichester - proceeded to make light work of chasing down their small target. Sean Heather hit five sixes and five fours in his 79 not out, and Nick Hunt struck six boundaries and two maximums en route to an undefeated 52. Peter King was the only Sidley bowler to go for less than nine-per-over as Stirlands got home in four balls less than 20 overs. The match ball was sponsored by Sidley Residents Association.
