The First Match on Sidley's Ground - Saturday, July 13th 1901.

“The new ground which that local veteran cricketer, Mr A.J. Brook, has had laid out behind the New Inn at Sidley was opened on Saturday with a match against the Colveston Team. Rain prevented a start being made until after luncheon. The visitors batted first, and Mr Brook had the honour of bowling the first over on his new ground. The batsmen did not do much on the soft pitch, the side being out for 81. Easton took 6 wickets for 40 runs. Mr Brook’s XI succeeded in passing the visitors’ total and won by 38 runs. The principal scorers were Bennett (of Hastings) and A.S. Hurst.”
